What is Beatboxing?

Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of mimicking drum machines, using one's mouth, lips, tongue, and voice. It may also involve vocal imitation of turntablism, and other musical instruments. Beatboxing today is connected with hip-hop culture, often referred to as "the fifth element" of hip-hop, although it is not limited to hip-hop music. The term "beatboxing" is sometimes used to refer to vocal percussion in general.

What are they about?

Beatbox workshops that are designed to inspire youth and encourage self-expression and confidence while learning music in a fun, hip hop based environment. Each student will learn the foundations of Beatboxing along with rhythms, tempo and beat patterns. Students will take away from this class with a better sense of rhythm and timing, new creative ways to make music and vocal warm up techniques.

This type of workshop is an interactive, low intensity class so you do not need to be psychically active to participate in the workshop. This workshop caters to all ages and special needs students.

A personal story will be shared to help encourage hopes, dreams & aspirations. Listing such achievements and identifying struggles and solutions to overcome them. I tell the story of being told girls could not beatbox to then ranking top 4 female beatboxers in the world – the only Maori woman to do so.
