SCHOOL OF BEATBOX
Inspiring the next generation through music
IT’S YOUR STORY
MAKE IT COUNT
NAU MAI HAERE MAI
WELCOME!
School of Beatbox workshops are designed to inspire youth and encourage self-expression and confidence while learning music in a fun, hip hop based environment. Each student will learn the foundations of Beatboxing along with rhythms, tempo and beat patterns. Students will take away from this class with a better sense of rhythm and timing, new creative ways to make music and vocal warm up techniques.
This type of workshop is an interactive, low intensity class so you do not need to be psychically active to participate in the workshop. This workshop caters to all ages and special needs students.
A personal story will be shared to help encourage hopes, dreams & aspirations. Listing such achievements and identifying struggles and solutions to overcome them. I tell the story of being told girls could not beatbox to then ranking top 4 female beatboxers in the world – the only Maori woman to do so.
WORKSHOP INFORMATION
What is Beatboxing?
Beatboxing is a form of vocal percussion primarily involving the art of mimicking drum machines, using one's mouth, lips, tongue, and voice. It may also involve vocal imitation of turntablism, and other musical instruments. Beatboxing today is connected with hip-hop culture, often referred to as "the fifth element" of hip-hop, although it is not limited to hip-hop music. The term "beatboxing" is sometimes used to refer to vocal percussion in general.

TESTIMONIALS
Benneydale School was very fortunate to have the talented Hope Haami run two beat boxing workshops with our students. The sessions engaged and challenged the students and Hope was warm and encouraging towards all students and their varying capabilities. We were grateful for the flexibility in how the programs ran and we would not hesitate having her back again. It was inspiring for all of our tamariki to see a variety of ways they could realise their potential and seek avenues to share this across the world. Nga mihi nui Hope, he wahine toa!
Vanessa Te Huia | Principal | Benneydale School
"Our school is a special needs school so all of the students have a physical or intellectual disability or both. She greeted the students with enthusiasm and warmth. Her natural talents as both a performer and teacher allowed all of the students to feel connected, and they were engaged in the learning. All the students participated in groups and were willing to come up and perform their skills- a testament to how highly they connected with, and regarded Hope.
We would love for her to return anytime, and I have no hesitation in recommending her – Ka wani ke!"
Fleur Lucas | Music Teacher | Hamilton North School
"Hope kept the students enthused, challenged and focused for the entire workshop. Our students were absolutely “buzzing” after the performance. I’m so glad that we had Hope come to our school; it was a unique and valuable musical experience for our students - and one they are certain never to forget."
